Here is my full explanation vlog for Day 1 of Dr. Fuhrman’s new Lose 10 Pounds in 20 Days Detox Program (“10 in 20”), including what I ate, how hard it was to prepare, how much weight I lost, whether or not I was hungry all day and the exercise I got as well.
Overall, Day 1 was pretty do-able. For the most part, I really enjoyed the recipes…I talk about that a lot more in the video and actually show the meals I ate as part of the plan. And I wasn’t too terribly hungry, but I also am used to this way of eating already...I imagine someone just starting out would have a more difficult time of it.
I also talk about a few other resources in there, links below, including the workout app that I use, the book that changed my life in terms of controlling my cravings and food addictions and the audiobook that I’m listening to currently.
So check out the video to learn all about my first day!

And if you know me, you know that I love to do these challenges periodically. This is actually my second challenge this year, so I’m staying on top of it!
I try to do a Nutritarian challenge at least once per year, and this year I’m just ON IT. I’m honestly feeling like I have finally made the transition to being a Nutritarian permanent now.
Also, I’m really excited that Dr. Furhman released this new product, because I love when I don’t have to even think about what I’m going to eat — sometimes I like to be told what to do! (Husband, don’t get any ideas… :P)
It’s great because it gives you not only the recipes for all 20 days, but also grocery lists — that was SOOO helpful this week and took all the guesswork out of it. That’s maybe one of the biggest drags of eating healthy: always having to decide what to make and making lists.
And if you’re interested in doing the 20-Day challenge yourself, check out the 10 in 20 detox program product on his website here. It’s a really great price for everything included…it’ll even give you a quick introduction to Nutritarianism, if you’re not already familiar!

Thanks, Cheri! I have been considering doing this as well. I did the six week challenge and have stayed pretty strict since then (I am at about 4.5 months now), but after losing 40 pounds in the first four months, it does not look like this month is going to stack up. So I might need a bit of a jolt!
I am looking into this to help me stay in tune. You are so right trying to figure what to eat and when to eat it is my biggest challenge not to speak of trying things that interest my husband I am anxious to see what you have provided
Hi Terry! So great to hear where you’re at; I know it can be a struggle to keep it up after a longer period of time, the plateaus are annoying! :) I’ve done the six week challenge 3 times in the last few years and now am doing this new one and love it because it lays it all out!! You should definitely check it out!! :)
I soooo know what you mean Bernice!! It can be so hard! I will be continuing to give great recipes and tips here on the site, and I definitely encourage you to check out Dr Fuhrmans detox program (linked in the post) since it takes all the guesswork away and it’s very affordable! It really helps you learn some great habits, even if it is a little difficult to manage sometimes! :D lemme know if you have any specific questions I can help with. :D
Thanks Cheri! This is Cindy Hermit from Dr Fuhrmans 10-20 group page. We had a couple of short conversation. I told you I would listen to your volg’s. I’m up to day 11. I’m so motivated by you. Remember I’m not interested in cooking. But since you’ve tried Dr F recipes out I’m going to pick out the ones you loved and just use them. I loved your analog on a relationship that you enjoyed but knew was bad for you. Now you’re in the right one. How that related to your food journey. That’s exactly how I feel. I love Western food but know it’s bad for me. Vegan is so much better and I have peace around it. Thanks Cheri! If you are able to give me good tasty recipes I will be forever indebted to you. It would be a miracle to know what to do with spices and to enjoy cooking. I’m going after my miracle.
Cindy! It is so nice to hear from you over here in my neck of the woods, thanks so much for commenting! I’m so glad you’re watching the vlogs and I’m so glad they’re motivating!! I’m really glad to hear that what I’m saying is resonating with you — I was hoping these things that run through my head..that I’m not the only one that thinks them! I will definitely be doing tasty recipes as I go, so make sure to sign up for my email newsletter (sign up on my About Page) so you can get them whenever I publish them! :) Thanks again Cindy, and feel free to comment anytime here or on YouTube! <3
I have a couple questions:
*What do you eat when you go out?
* How do you deal with “gas”?
I can easily do this when at home but my hubby likes to go out and I find that very difficult. I am allergic to Metabisodium Sulfite which can be used on greens in restaurants so there are very few places I am comfortable ordering a salad. Any suggestions?
Hi Jane!! Thanks so much for writing…
I actually still do a vlog every single day of every single thing I eat and you can see what I get when I go out to eat. I didn’t eat out once while I was on the Detox Challenge, but now I just typically go to vegan restaurants when I go out (a couple times a week). They have fairly healthy choices. But it is hard to ever find something Nutritarian since there’s almost always oil and salt.
Interesting about the sulfite; I’d never heard of that before! So it may be difficult to get a salad, but one good option at restaurants is to order all steamed veggie sides. You can get them to put 3-4 of them on one plate, and just get them without salt or oil. Especially if they have a potato, like a sweet potato or even a baked white potato, get that with a bunch of veggie sides. This is easier at vegan or vegetarian restaurants, but can still be done at traditional American restaurants as well.
And as far as gas goes, I think I may be the opposite of most vegans, at least new vegans. I actually get more gas when I’m eating Standard American Diet food, than when I’m eating vegan. And Dr. Fuhrman says that that issue tends to go away after about 1-2 months of consistently eating Nutritarian, and I find that to be true as well. Let me know what you think of all this! xoxo
My sister and I are starting the 10 in 20 tomorrow. We were inspired by your videos. We live many miles apart and decided to follow your lead and share daily videos. I am used to eating nutritairian but my sister is not. I am hoping she will stick with me. Who am I kidding…I hoping I will stick with it. Thanks for the motivation!
This is amazing to hear, Cindy!! I’m so glad…what a cool way to connect with your sister! I hope your journey goes well..keep me posted!! :D
i HAVE HEARD SO GOOD AND WANT TO HAVE A GO
I’m beginning the 10 in 20 tomorrow which also begins my 9 day vacation. I’m trying to get my meat & potatoes husband, only dairy & bread son, and me, a all veggies wannabe with sugar addiction on board. My son can be bribed into trying it so he’s in, but my husband is difficult. I’m hoping these are easy meals since I don’t have much time after work most days and delish so we all will love it. Wish me luck.
This is wonderful Laura! Yes those are quite challenging circumstances for sure, but not uncommon! And certainly not impossible! The plan is quite a lot of work to create the recipes, I will admit, but you don’t have to make them all exactly when they say, and their are lots of leftovers to make that easier. :) Good luck!
Hello! Is the content of the menu different from the one found in the book Eat to live? Also, I believe I heard you in one of your videos talking to your daughter in Spanish. Do you speak Spanish?
Hi Maria! Yes the menu in the 10 in 20 is different than the stuff in the book. And yes, I am learning Spanish and speaking to her as much as I can as I learn more. My husband is Mexican, so he speaks to her mostly in Spanish. :D
