PROs: It comes with two books: one is a recipe book, that has some really yummy looking meals! And I love that you get all those ideas with it, because sometimes I’m stumped thinking of things to spiralize lol. And then there’s the manual which is super easy to use, and it has more recipes too!
PROs: It was so easy to set up…I timed myself putting it together to see how long it would take me. Less than 4 minutes from the moment I started looking at the instructions for assembly (not a ton of words, easy pictures to use, thank god) to having an entire carrot spiralized. Awesome. The rest of the foods I spiralized took just seconds.
CONs: The pusher cracks the end of carrots a bit, so if your carrot (or any other veggie) isn’t sturdy, you have to cut off the end and start over. Bit of food waste, but really not that big of a deal.
PROs: The spiralized veggies came out nicely. Depends on the actual veggie you use, how perfect the spirals will be, but really to me, that doesn’t matter. It did the job and it did it quickly and with barely any effort at all.
CONs: There is a bit of leftover core, but it’s soft enough to cook right alongside the other spiralized veggies, or else just eat while prepping, like I did.
CONs: If you veggie is too thin, you’ll end up with mostly just core that’s not spiralized. Not a big deal, if you make sure to have all thick enough veggies. Thicker than 1 inch is probably best.
CONs: The blade cones had a little gunk left inside that was hard to get, considering they are sharp down there. The sponge couldn’t get to it for cleaning. I wish they would supply some sort of brush for easy cleaning, but you could probably use an old toothbrush if you have one.
PROs: I had half a zucchini leftover, and it spiralized it just fine.
CONs: The spiralizer leaves quite a large chunk of core leftover that needs to be chopped or used in some other way. Kind of a lot of food waste, however, I don’t mind this much myself. You just have to plan ahead if you have odd-shaped veggies like beets, etc.
PROs: The cord fits nicely tucked up inside the machine.
PROs: Super easy to clean the unit, just wipe down with a damp paper towel. Not a lot of crevices so it was easy. I wish the blade cones could go in the dishwasher, but everything else could at least.
PROs: Everything tucked nicely inside the machine for easy storage in our cupboard.
CONCLUSIONS ABOUT THE GOURMIA CURLY Q SPIRALIZER
In general, I really like this machine. I don’t love the idea of having such a bulky piece of equipment for just one job, but compared to my old hand-crank spiralizer (about the same size), which I never ever pull out because it is so cumbersome, this is totally worth it if you love spiralizing veggies. Would be especially great if you’re having a dinner party where you need to make a lot of veggies at once. It’s easy to clean, super quick, and easy to set up. And it gets the job done super fast. I also think the current price is pretty fair for the product and I would recommend it to anyone looking to up their healthy eating game!
