Back in early September, I posted a Honey Peach Cocktail that was a big hit, and a company contacted me to try out a new-fangled drink infuser. They sent me one of the infusers for free so I could test it out and report my results back to you. I don’t normally like to review products on the blog, but I thought this one would be a good fit because I love making drinks that are simple and fresh, rather than having stuff from cans. It’s made by a company called Primula and the product is called the Flavor It 3-in-1 Beverage System. This time, I made a Spiced Iced Tea Recipe.

It’s a unique product because it can cold-brew tea and/or infuse other herbs or spices, like cinnamon or cloves in a mesh basket. There is also a flavor infuser column that lets you infuse any types of fruit, berry or even veggies into the liquid of your choice. And then there is a chill core that you can freeze and insert into the liquid that you have infused!

I started off by trying to infuse some clementines in water because that’s what I had around the house, but I wasn’t a huge fan of that because it had just a hint of orange flavor, and it mostly just made me crave full orange juice! But I can see that with berries, it would make a nice flavor infusion and add a little zest to your drink!

I decided to make a Spiced Iced Tea with the system. I used what I had on hand and it was actually a really refreshing drink. Something that you could serve on a warm day – and for those of you in Australia, it will be the perfect timing for this recipe!

Spiced Iced Tea
INGREDIENTS
5 cups water
3 cups seltzer water
1 lemon, juiced
4 bags of black tea
2 tbsp tea leaves
1 stick cinnamon
6 whole cloves

Add 1 cup water and sugar into the pitcher. Stir gently to dissolve the sugar. Add the remaining water, seltzer water and lemon juice.

Unscrew the tea infuser basket, place the tea bags, tea leaves, cinnamon and cloves in the mesh basket and close it back up with the cap. Insert the Infuser into the pitcher and screw it closed to secure. Infuse the tea for an hour.

Remove the infuser basket and discard the infusion ingredients. Add the frozen chill core into the tea and serve after 30 minutes, or when chilled. You can also just serve with a bunch of ice.

FINAL NOTE: While this is a really cool system, and it makes the process really easy and simple, if you can’t afford a new beverage system (it’s listed on their site for $34.99 right now), you could probably use a mesh bag or cheese cloth to create a similar effect.
